Trust in a Social and Digital World
Much of what we know we know from others, and this is as true today has it has been throughout most of human history. However, compared to times past, the communities through and within which we nowadays acquire, share, and revise our beliefs have changed considerably. Digital communication technologies and social media in particular have massively expanded our networks, giving us faster and easier access to more, more diverse, and more widely distributed sources of information. At the same time, not all sources are equally reliable, and not all networks are conducive to truth. Our group tackles these issues by focusing on the nature, mechanisms, and patterns of trust and distrust that permeate and structure our online lives.
